What is Wagyu Beef and where does it come from?
Wagyu is the Japanese word for a cow from Japan. Literally translated: "Wa" stands for Japanese and "gyu" means cow. Wagyu means Japanese cow. Fellers Ranch® is proud to be one of the only ranches in Minnesota to grow and sell true Wagyu. Wagyu is an ancient livestock breed that has its genetic origins traced back over 35,000 years to Japan. Initially Wagyu was used as a draft animal for agricultural work, and for physical stamina. Today's Wagyu cattle are the product of crossing this native Japanese breed with imported black breeds from Great Britain, Korea, and Europe.

The unique marbling found in Minnesota's Finest Wagyu is what separates it from other cattle breeds and gives it its rich flavor and melt-in-your-mouth texture. Competing with these multi-national corporations on price is not a viable option.
After months of research and planning, Fellers Ranch® was born with a mission to create a vertically integrated Wagyu beef company that would allow family farmers and a local meat processing plant to thrive by supplying a superior product.
